All based on a recording I did of my dad (80 years young) singing "when for you I dream" a victorian tear jerker he remembered his dad (my grandfather) singing when he was a boy.

Live at the NoiseFloor festival

I will be playing live at this years NoiseFloor festival in Staffordshire University UK which runs from the 12-14th of January. The intention of the NoiseFloor festival is to draw together forms of exploratory electronic music from a range of disciplines and place them together in one single event. Visitors will be able to explore both the multi-channel Electroacoustic concert situation, as well as the two channel club setting. Read more here and at the events Facebook page.

(postscript) Fantastic three days of some awesome music on the most amazing eight channel system. Got to talk shop with highly fantastic musicians and composers, had a total blast. Hopefully this will grow into on of the UK top experimental music event. Great work Ben!!

Well first ever festival out the way!!! first time under canvas as well - and I had a total blast, three nights in the woods, totally fantastic PA from Bob and we invested in some top of the range projector for the interactive visuals. We played a live set's at 3 in the morning. I played a solo setSunday night and it was a total blast to play in such a evocative place to people who are so open minded and into what you are doing!! A piece resulting from a collaboration with Seth Chrisman (AKA Widesky) over the last year we have be exchanging samples / field recording which we have then been reprocessing - reworking, which is then passed onto the other to again rework. Quartz Tree03

A new variation on the "tree" concept I've been working on recently. Because each of the twenty elements making up the basic "branch" is nested within the previous one, I've had to export all the individual variables to the root patch, which ended up taking a ridiculous amount of time! However I discovered the Kineme Core plugin from those nice people at kineme.net which allows you to automatically export all of your inputs to the root automatically. I'm planing to add some more branching section and maybe look at some audio reactive elements and use it for a few live gigs I've been planning.

A development of the "tree" patch I uploaded recently. Programed in Quartz each cube rotates around x y and z coordinates in 3D, a random variable is added to each value and as each cube is linked to the cube in the "tree" this creates a fluid like movement - I've added additional random values to control the rotation and color changes of each "tentacle". Along with the motion of the whole form.

This resulted from my contribution to the endless-endless project run by audio-bulb records. Each artist was asked to contribute one 120 second piece to mixed down into one continually growing piece of sound art. I worked by improvising one simple two note saxophone sample played by Tom Markwick - I was so happy with the result I decided to work it up into a longer composition - and renamed it "In slow motion (she falls)"

This was a animation project for the Optofonica festival in Amsterdam I worked on as part of the Modulate collective. I created the animation by creating a series of loops governing the variable of a basic disk shape. As the piece runs its cause the various parameters run though their permutations until they resolve themselves and the piece ends. The audio was created by Modulate member Bobby Bird who programed a Max/MSP patch which directly scans the visual data from the animation and converts in into audio

Francisco Lopez and Birmingham Sound Matter prodject

This was a project I was involed in with Francisco Lopez and six other artists working in the west midlands. Helena Gough, Nicholas Bullen, Cormac Falkner, Martin Clark, Bobby Bird, and Annie Mahtani. Francisco Lopez is internationally recognised as one of the major figures of the sound experimental music scene who has, over the last thirty years, developed an astonishing sonic universe, based on a profound listening of the world. He was first invited to Birmingham by Modulate in 2007, to give one of his legendary ‘Total Darkness’ performances, and we were delighted when he subsequently suggested returning to direct Birmingham Sound Matter. After a series of workshops led by Lopez earlier this year, the participants created a shared a pool of location recordings made in the city, which subsequently underwent a series of transformations through further collective and creative processes. These recordings and transformations have formed the basis of the final compositions. which were performed at a concert at Birminghams Ikon Eastside. And released by on CD by Audio Bulb records. Modulate is a collective I've been working with for the last five years or so. Modulate are an audio visual group sharing an interest in electronic music and abstract art. Our live performances have a unique dynamic, sparked by the interactions between the five members of the collective, three of whom improvise audio while the other two synchronise live generative visuals. Connecting from a varied background in sound, graphic design, curating, film making, and generative software programing, members include. Bobby Bird, Mark Bunegar, Scylla Magda, Joseph Potts, and myself.

This was generated from one basic wireframe animation repeated in sequenced phase patterns. The variables of all the coordinates are set to loop at different speeds creating an ever changing composition.

Each partials course is governed by looping the variables of its position in X Y and Z space. This is further altered by the rotation coordinates, and then by the manipulations of elements which control there flow and direction.

The audio is "Still Frame" by myself which was created from a single violin and piano sample.
